Elon Musk Announces Urgent Plans for Neuralink Brain Chip Production

BREAKING: Elon Musk has just announced a significant ramp-up in the production of Neuralink brain chips, set to begin in 2026. In a recent post on X, Musk confirmed that the surgical implantation of these cutting-edge devices will move to a “streamlined, almost entirely automated” procedure.

Neuralink, co-founded by Musk in 2016, is pioneering brain-chip implants aimed at improving the lives of individuals suffering from severe neurological disorders, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and paralysis. These innovations promise to enable users to control computers and enhance communication, significantly impacting their independence and quality of life.

Musk emphasized that the new surgical method will allow device threads to be inserted through the dura, the protective membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord, without the need for traditional skull removal. “This is a big deal,” Musk stated, highlighting the breakthrough’s potential to simplify the process for patients.

The Neuralink chip, roughly the size of a coin, connects to a network of ultra-fine threads—each about 20 times thinner than a human hair—that fan out into the brain. Previously, implanting this device involved a human surgeon performing a craniotomy followed by a robotic arm inserting the chip. This automation is expected to revolutionize the way these devices are implanted.

Noland Arbaugh, who became Neuralink’s first human patient in January 2024, has shared his positive experience with the implant, noting it has allowed him to regain control over his life and foster social connections. As of September 2025, Neuralink reported that 12 patients worldwide had received implants and were actively utilizing them.

Musk has ambitious plans for Neuralink, suggesting that by 2026, the company could have over 1,000 patients with the implant. In November 2024, Neuralink launched a hiring spree, seeking manufacturing technicians and microfabrication specialists to support this production surge.

The urgency of this announcement highlights the potential for Neuralink to change lives dramatically and reshape how we interact with technology. As this story unfolds, all eyes will be on Neuralink’s progress and the implications for patients worldwide.
