New Year’s Eve: Free Rides Offered in Phoenix for Safe Travel

UPDATE: As New Year’s Eve celebrations unfold across Phoenix, revelers are urged to prioritize safety with a variety of free and discounted transportation options. Starting at 7 p.m. on December 31, 2025, all light rail and bus rides provided by Valley Metro will be free, continuing into the early morning hours of January 1, 2026.

This year, Valley Metro has partnered with Coors Light to ensure that partygoers can celebrate responsibly without the need to drive. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are also offering discounted rides, making it easier for revelers to get home safely after enjoying the festivities.

With safety as a top priority, local law enforcement is stressing the importance of being vigilant.

“Verify the driver’s information. Verify the car information, such as make, model, and license plate before getting inside,”

advised Lindsey Fernandez, public information officer for the Tempe Police Department. Authorities encourage riders to sit in the backseat and share their ride details with friends or family.

Residents like Jessica Kuna are already taking precautions. “I usually always ride with a friend. It just doesn’t seem worth it to even take one drink and try to drive,” she shared. Many revelers are opting for safer travel methods this year, including utilizing driverless options like Waymo.

With festivities ramping up, the availability of safe rides means one less decision and one less risk on the roads. This New Year’s Eve, as the clock counts down to midnight, revelers in the Phoenix area can celebrate with peace of mind knowing that reliable and safe transportation is just a click away.

Authorities and service providers are urging everyone to make responsible choices. Stay safe, enjoy the celebrations, and take advantage of these essential transportation options!
