Oronoco Couple Tragically Killed in Minnesota Crash This Morning

UPDATE: A devastating crash in northern Minnesota has claimed the lives of an Oronoco couple this morning. Officials report that around 9:02 a.m. on December 26, 2025, a collision occurred between a Chevrolet Impala and a GMC Sierra pickup at the intersection of East Stark Road and Canosia Road, just north of Esko.

The victims, identified as Anthony Drake, 57, and Tammy Drake, 57, both residents of Oronoco, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crash, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, who are reconstructing the incident to determine the cause.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 32-year-old man from Thomson Township, along with a 1-year-old passenger, sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. Their conditions have not been released.
