URGENT UPDATE: The Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen’s Fund is calling for donations NOW to help send even more children from low-income households and active military families to summer camps in Southern Arizona. This year, the Fund has already raised $263,457.67 and sent 423 children to camp, but with expanding opportunities, your contribution is more crucial than ever.
Just announced: In 2026, the Fund plans to enhance its partnership with the Sky School on Mt. Lemmon, allowing more students from Title 1 schools to benefit from educational camps. This initiative is set to include a four-day, three-night science camp at the University of Arizona Sky School, aimed at middle and high school students.
Since its inception in 1947, the Sportsmen’s Fund has been a lifeline for children, funding 44,814 overnight camp experiences. With 97 cents of every dollar directly supporting children, the organization stands out as one of Arizona’s most efficient charities.
This summer, the Fund will continue to send kids to various camps including YMCA and Scouting America. Notably, the recent $5,000 donation from the Catalina Rotary Club during its October Denim and Diamonds event is a significant boost for future camp sponsorships.
The urgency to donate is amplified by the opportunity to benefit from Arizona’s tax credit for charitable contributions. Joint Arizona filers can donate up to $987 for their 2025 taxes, while others can contribute up to $495. Use code 20450 when donating to ensure your contribution qualifies.
For those with funds in an IRA, consider making a direct donation from your account; this could also provide further tax benefits. Consult a tax advisor for details.
