Vilpa Films is set to launch a new streaming platform dedicated to short films, named Vilpa Max, on January 31, 2024. This service aims to showcase a diverse array of short films, including selections that have received accolades at prestigious events such as the Oscars and the Cannes Film Festival. The platform is designed to provide a global stage for emerging filmmakers and their creative works.
The initial rollout of Vilpa Max will occur in the U.K., North Africa, and the Middle East, with plans to expand to additional territories in the future. Subscribers will have the option of a freemium model, which will include advertisements, or a paid subscription priced at £4.99 (approximately $6.68) in the U.K., and $3.99 in regions of North Africa and the Middle East.
At launch, the platform will feature a curated selection of films, including the Oscar-winning short film The Mozart of Pickpockets, directed by Philippe Pollet-Villard, and the Oscar-nominated The Red Suitcase, directed by Cyrus Neshvad. Another highlight is All the Crows in the World, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, directed by Yi Tang. Additional notable titles include Poof by Dean Anderson and Love Is Blind by Dan Hodgson, both of which were recognized in the official selection at Cannes.
In an official statement, Alejandro Vilpa, the founder of Vilpa Films, emphasized the mission of Vilpa Max: “At Vilpa Films and Vilpa Max, our mission is to champion extraordinary cinema while creating a bridge for emerging filmmakers to enter the international distribution landscape.” He further noted that the platform aims to curate films that not only stand alongside award-winning works but also empower new voices in the industry.
The platform will also feature films such as Bienvenidos a Los Ángeles by Lisa Cole, which is shortlisted for the 2024 Academy Awards, and Nocturne in Black by Jimmy Keyrouz. These selections reflect the commitment of Vilpa Max to present a catalogue that is rich in vision, craft, and cultural significance.
Alejandro Vilpa, who previously contributed to the script development team at Caledonia Productions, the U.S. branch of the renowned Eon Productions, is leveraging his extensive industry experience to elevate the platform. The launch of Vilpa Max marks a significant step in enhancing the visibility of short films and providing audiences a unique opportunity to engage with innovative storytelling from around the world.
