UPDATE: The San Francisco SPCA has just launched its 39th annual window display pet adoption event at Macy’s Union Square, aiming to find homes for 500 animals this holiday season. The beloved tradition, running through the month, allows visitors to adopt pets and pay what they can for animals over five months old.
“This event has successfully placed over 10,000 animals into loving homes,” said Aeris Velasco, Assistant Manager of Adoptions and Client Care at SFSPCA. “Our goal this year is to reach over 500 adoptions, and we hope the community will rally to support this cause.”
The live window display at Macy’s is not just about showcasing animals; it’s a chance for families to create lasting memories. Velasco shared, “We’re seeing visitors return with their children, continuing the tradition of adopting directly from Macy’s.” This year’s event emphasizes inclusivity—any animal over five months old can be adopted with a name-your-price fee.
Adoption is made easy with just a few simple requirements: potential pet parents must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid ID, and provide proof of residency. Velasco emphasized that the SFSPCA is committed to removing barriers to adoption, making the process straightforward with the help of dedicated volunteers and staff.
“We want to ensure that adopting a pet is accessible for everyone,” Velasco stated. “Our team is here to guide you every step of the way, including post-adoption check-ins and ongoing resources.”
The urgency of this initiative cannot be overstated. With the holiday season approaching, the SFSPCA is calling on the community to open their hearts and homes. The live window display at Macy’s Union Square is a cherished tradition, and this year, it serves as a vital campaign to promote animal welfare and adoption.
