Police Hunt 5 Suspects in Assault on Texas A&M Fans in Austin

URGENT UPDATE: Austin police are actively seeking five suspects in connection with the alleged assault of two Texas A&M fans following the Lone Star Showdown on November 29, 2023. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of East Sixth Street, just hours after the Texas Longhorns defeated the Aggies.

Authorities report that the victims, who were wearing Texas A&M apparel, were confronted by the suspects shortly after the game. One of the suspects made a “Hook ‘Em Horns” gesture, to which the victims responded with an upside-down version—an exchange typical among rival fans. This interaction escalated as the suspects “initiated a physical assault,” resulting in injuries to both victims.

Police have confirmed that while five individuals were involved, only three have been identified through witness accounts. The first suspect is described as a Black male in his mid-20s with short black curly hair and a small build. The second is also a Black male in his mid-20s, but with long black hair. The third suspect is a white male in his mid-20s with short brown curly hair and a medium build. Details remain scarce for the additional two suspects, as police have not yet released their descriptions.

Despite the busy nightlife, security footage did not capture the assault due to the high volume of crowds and disturbances at the time. The Austin Police Department is urging anyone with information to step forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously via austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.

This incident highlights the growing concern for fan safety during intense rivalry games. Officials stress the importance of community involvement in identifying those responsible for such acts of violence.

As police continue their investigation, residents and fans are encouraged to remain vigilant. More updates are expected as authorities gather further evidence and testimonies. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this ongoing case.
