Wagner College Opera Showcases ‘Echoes Between the Lines’ in December

Wagner College Opera is set to present “Echoes Between the Lines,” a captivating program featuring operatic scenes from renowned composers including Mozart, Handel, Verdi, Puccini, Berlioz, Sondheim, Lehár, and Bernstein. Scheduled for performances on December 6 at 19:30 and December 7 at 16:00, the production will take place at the Wagner College Main Stage in Main Hall Theatre, located at One Campus Road, Staten Island.

The theme of this year’s program emphasizes the notion that true meaning often lies beneath the surface of music, poetry, and everyday life. According to Dr. Vincent Graña, the Director of Opera, this initiative encourages students to delve deeper into the works they perform. “What makes this year’s scenes program special is how it pushes our students to dig deeper into what these scenes actually mean and what they as artists can bring to the music and drama,” Graña stated.

He added, “They’re stepping out of their comfort zones, taking risks, and discovering they can do things they never imagined. Seeing that breakthrough, the moment they really feel the power of opera, is the most rewarding part for me.”

The production is under the direction of Graña, who also serves as the music director, alongside collaborative pianist Giovanni Longo. The creative team includes choreographer Jillian Rubino, producer Michelle Siemens, scenic designer Selina Amargo, lighting designer Harley Cooper, and stage manager Adar Marcus. Special thanks were given to Vicki Neal and Phill Hickox for their contributions to the project.

A talented cast will feature performers including Victoria Acquavita, David Azcona, Kayli Blanchard, Luke Curcio, Destiny Elias, and many others, showcasing the diverse vocal talents of Wagner College students.
