Eight Americans Arrested in Bahamas Drug and Weapons Bust

Police in the Bahamas arrested eight Americans on March 5, 2024, during a coordinated operation that led to the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and a substantial amount of undeclared cash. The operation, carried out by the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) in collaboration with the Bahamas Customs Department, targeted a vessel docked at a port in Bimini, an island known for its proximity to the mainland United States.

According to the RBPF, officers from the Alice Town Police Station conducted the search acting on received intelligence. The specific details of this intelligence remain undisclosed. During the operation, authorities discovered three high-powered weapons, along with eleven additional firearms, a considerable quantity of ammunition, and a significant sum of cash that had not been declared.

In total, ten individuals were aboard the boat at the time of the arrest, including eight Americans, one South African, and one Guyanese national. The ages of those arrested ranged from 21 to 62 years, but the RBPF has not released their identities. All seized items, including the firearms and cash, have been confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.

The RBPF has not provided further information regarding the intended purpose of the investigation or whether additional arrests may occur. A spokesperson for the agency did not immediately respond to requests for additional details from news outlets.

Bimini, located at the western edge of the Bahamas, serves as a key point of entry for travelers from the United States. The region’s capital, Alice Town, is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, making recent developments in law enforcement activities particularly significant for the community. The outcome of this investigation may shed light on broader issues related to illegal arms and drug trafficking in the area.
