Woodside Dad Opens Kung Fu Tea Location in Redwood City!

URGENT UPDATE: A new Kung Fu Tea franchise is set to open in Redwood City, bringing a much-needed boba option closer to home for local families. Drew Shih, a Woodside father of four girls, has confirmed the soft opening for October 27, 2023, with a grand opening planned for November 15, 2023.

Families in the area will no longer need to drive long distances for their boba fix. Shih’s daughters, aged 11 to 19, each have their own boba preferences, often requiring multiple stops at various tea shops in San Mateo and Redwood City. “It became sort of an obsession,” Shih stated, emphasizing his desire to meet his family’s cravings without the hassle of daily commutes.

Located at 593 D Woodside Road, the new shop will feature a menu boasting over 70 unique drinks, including slushies, boba, espresso, and fruity teas. The family, with roots in Korea and Taiwan, is dedicated to providing authentic Taiwanese flavors while appealing to a mainstream audience. Shih’s daughters have even taste-tested the menu, ensuring that every item meets their standards.

Among the standout offerings are honey oolong and winter melon milk teas, refreshing fruit drinks like rose hip lemonade and lychee punch, and inventive slushies in flavors such as taro and apple pie. With nearly 400 Kung Fu Tea locations nationwide, this new establishment marks the second in the Bay Area, following a closure in Palo Alto.

As the opening date approaches, the Shih family is excited to welcome the community to experience their passion for boba. Stay updated on their journey and menu offerings by following them on Instagram at @kft_woodsideroad.

This new location not only fills a gap in the Redwood City beverage scene but also reflects the growing demand for diverse food options in suburban areas. Residents can look forward to a convenient spot that caters to their boba cravings, fostering community connections through shared tastes and flavors.
