BREAKING: A heroic rescue unfolded in Chester on Wednesday night as firefighters and police successfully saved a 2-year-old child trapped in a burning home. The emergency call, placed at 8:40 p.m., reported flames engulfing the side and rear of the residence located on the 200 block of Wilson Street.
As crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and confirmed that the child was still inside, in a crib on the second floor. The urgency escalated quickly, prompting officials to strike a second alarm as flames began to blaze from the roof.
Firefighters on the scene utilized a ladder truck to reach the second floor, while police were already working to locate the child. The intense firefighting efforts were underway, with three lines in service to combat the fire’s spread.
“The child was rescued, and we continue to battle the flames,” reported the fire chief at 9 p.m..
In addition to the child, another victim was discovered walking around with burns to the upper body. An ambulance was dispatched to transport this individual to Nemours/Dupont for medical evaluation.
The circumstances surrounding the rescue and the cause of the fire remain under investigation, but the swift actions of the emergency responders undoubtedly saved a life. The firefighting efforts are expected to continue for some time as teams address the aftermath of the blaze.
