UPDATE: Fundraising for the 2025 Operation Holiday program is officially underway, aiming to assist 199 families and provide gifts for 403 children this holiday season. With the program now in its 35th year, every contribution is crucial as local food pantries report rising hardships in Montgomery, Chester, and Berks County.
The urgency to give back is palpable. Operation Holiday, which began in 1991, is dedicated to ensuring families in need have food on their tables and gifts under their trees come Christmas morning. This year, 22 partner agencies will refer families, reinforcing the program’s commitment to direct support through vetted channels, including food pantries and social services.
Last year, a total of $84,236 was raised through 619 donations, showcasing the community’s generosity. Donations range from as little as $10 to $5,000, and every cent goes directly to local families without any management costs or corporate sponsorships.
The program not only focuses on gifts but also provides grocery store gift cards to families, enabling them to purchase essential items for holiday meals. Partnering with Weis Markets, Operation Holiday ensures families can secure both holiday fixings and pantry staples. Furthermore, each child aged 16 and under will receive gift cards through a collaboration with Boscov’s, allowing families to choose gifts that truly matter.
To contribute, community members can donate online via a secure portal at tcnetwork.org or send checks to designated addresses. All contributions are tax-deductible, and donors will be recognized in local newspapers unless anonymity is requested.
The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated. Families across the region are relying on the generosity of their neighbors to bring joy and sustenance during these challenging times. As the holiday season approaches, the need for support is more critical than ever.
What’s Next: As fundraising efforts ramp up, community members are encouraged to contribute and share this initiative widely. Every donation counts, and with the stakes this high, getting involved has never been more impactful.
