URGENT UPDATE: Residents in the Northern Liberties area of Philadelphia are expressing serious concerns as reports surface of a disturbing TikTok scam targeting young women. Since September, at least 20 young women have mistakenly arrived at the homes of unsuspecting residents, believing they were attending hair appointments scheduled through a misleading TikTok account named Nariah the Hairstylist.
Local resident Jearold Hersey described his panic, stating, “This is freaking my son out.” He reported that women arriving at his door claimed they had paid a deposit via Cash App before receiving an address that led them directly to his home. “It’s kind of nerve-racking because you don’t really know who is coming to the door,” he added.
In response to this alarming situation, neighbors have started placing warnings on their doors, alerting potential victims that their addresses have been misused in an online scam. “Sometimes people see the sign and go away, and sometimes people bang on the door and they’re yelling in front of their door,” said Hersey, illustrating the distress that has gripped the community.
Action News reached out to the number listed on the TikTok page. The woman on the line confirmed she would provide a location after receiving a $25 payment, but abruptly ended the call when questioned about the scheme.
Hersey is calling for action, “I really want them to get caught in all honesty. This isn’t cool. It’s not fair to the people, not just the people who are getting ripped off for money; we feel unsafe as well.” Local authorities are taking the matter seriously; the Philadelphia Police have advised any victims of this scam to file a formal police report.
As this situation continues to develop, residents are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior. The community’s safety is at stake, and immediate action is required to prevent further victimization. If you or someone you know has been impacted by this scam, please report the incident to law enforcement.
