BREAKING: The beloved Santa Float in Torrance is making a triumphant return this holiday season! After a six-year hiatus of running only half its route, the Torrance Police Officers Association (TPOA) is set to launch its full 26-night journey throughout the city, kicking off on Sunday, November 30.
In a thrilling twist, Santa will arrive in Torrance aboard a red and shiny Robinson R66 helicopter, courtesy of the Robinson Helicopter Company, a local manufacturer that has proudly operated in the area for over 50 years. This generous sponsorship allows the float to revive its cherished tradition of visiting every residential street in Torrance, a practice that has delighted families since 1992.
Marc Sandoval, president of the TPOA, expressed excitement for the return of the float, stating, “For more than 30 years, the Santa Float has brought smiles and excitement to families across Torrance.” He reminisced about how the initiative originated from a simple idea by police officers aiming to spread joy during the holiday season.
Due to staffing shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic, the float was limited to just 10 nights in recent years, focusing solely on key locations like Torrance Beach and City Hall. Now, with the backing of Robinson Helicopter and the Torrance Police Foundation, the float is back to its full schedule, promising to bring holiday cheer to neighborhoods across the city.
Residents are invited to witness Santa’s spectacular landing at the Robinson Helicopter Company campus at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Following the landing, Santa will board the float and embark on his extensive route, spreading holiday spirit across Torrance throughout December.
