Sally Cooper, Beloved Community Figure, Passes Away at 72

BREAKING NEWS: Sally Cooper, a cherished member of the Santa Cruz community, has passed away at the age of 72. Known for her unwavering dedication and kindness, Sally’s impact spanned decades, touching the lives of countless students and families.

Born on November 4, 1953, in Long Beach, California, Sally moved to Santa Cruz at the age of nine. She graduated from Soquel High School in 1971, where she met her husband, Kevin Cooper. Together, they celebrated an incredible 54 years of marriage, building a life filled with love and community involvement.

Sally was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a passionate advocate for youth sports, dedicating many years to coaching soccer. Her commitment to the Soquel School District exemplified her love for education and the youth of her community. Colleagues and friends remember her energy, compassion, and the profound impact she had on everyone around her.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin, their sons Chris, Brian, and Jake, daughter Amy, and five cherished grandchildren: Bradley, Troy, Logan, Kendall, and Kenzie. Sally also leaves behind her beloved cat, William, who provided her with comfort and companionship throughout her life.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church located at 435 Monterey Ave, Capitola, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SPCA in Sally’s memory, honoring her love for animals and her commitment to helping those in need.

As the community mourns the loss of a remarkable woman, tributes are pouring in, showcasing the profound influence Sally had on those she encountered. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to inspire generations to come.
