After receiving his ministerial license in 1959, he began his pastoral career in Oregon and eventually became the Senior Pastor of Christian Life Center in Santa Cruz, where he served until 1990.
Following a life-changing trip to Romania after the fall of communism, Bob and Charlene founded Assist International, a humanitarian organization that has provided essential support to orphaned children and vulnerable families for over 35 years. Their work has transformed countless lives through initiatives in orphan care, clean water, and sustainable development.
Bob’s remarkable service earned him numerous accolades, including an honorary doctorate from Bethany University in 2002 and recognition for 50 years of ministry in 2009. He was also a dedicated member of the Scotts Valley Rotary Club, where he embodied the motto “Service Above Self.”
His family, including his wife Charlene, daughters Michelle Sudfeld and Cheri Reynolds, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, remember him not only as a pastor but as a devoted family man. His commitment to serving others was a testament to his faith, encapsulated in his reflection on 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
A Memorial Celebration of Life will take place on December 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Christian Life Center, located at 1009 Mission Street, Santa Cruz, California.
