Residents Demand Action as Dunkin’ Odors Raise Air Quality Concerns

URGENT UPDATE: Residents near the largest Dunkin’ facility in the United States are raising alarms over overwhelming doughnut odors, prompting immediate action from local authorities. During a recent City Council meeting, residents expressed their frustrations, particularly Sean Wilson, who lives just a quarter-mile from the bakery.

Wilson voiced his concerns about air quality, stating, “My house has smelled like doughnuts all the time for the last two months. It’s distracting, and it’s heavy.” He urged council members to ensure the air in their neighborhood is safe to breathe as they consider a proposal that would allow the facility to install tanks capable of storing thousands of pounds of shortening.

The Dunkin’ facility, which produces an astounding 1 million doughnuts per day, has been operational since earlier this year and currently supplies around 300 stores. However, this number could surge to 800 if the new tanks are approved. J.T. Couch, a representative for Creek Brook CML, assured councilors that the bakery employs stringent measures to control air emissions, including dedicated hood systems for each fryer.

However, this reassurance has done little to quell the residents’ concerns. Councilor Shaun Toohey acknowledged the community’s discomfort and suggested postponing the vote on the tank installation until January, allowing time for a thorough air quality assessment.

As the council deliberates, the community remains on high alert. The pungent smell of frying doughnuts has become a daily reality for many residents, raising questions about potential health implications. Wilson, along with other concerned residents, are eager for answers and reassurances that their air quality will not be compromised.

With the City Council set to revisit this issue soon, all eyes are on the proposed measures to address community concerns. Residents are hoping that their voices will lead to effective solutions that prioritize both local health and the operational needs of the Dunkin’ facility.
