Police Identify Baby Found Dead in 1981; Seek Public’s Help

URGENT UPDATE: Police have identified the newborn boy found dead at Buckeye Park in San Bruno, California, back in 1981. This breakthrough comes after extensive use of forensic genealogy, a newly available investigative technology, and has reignited efforts to solve this chilling cold case.

On November 11, 1981, the infant was discovered inside a garbage can around 4 p.m., having been strangled and suffered severe head injuries. Authorities indicated that he had been dead only a few hours when found and likely placed in the bin sometime after 11 a.m. that day.

Detectives are now calling for public assistance as they continue their investigation into this tragic event. “This identification represents a major step forward in the case and has renewed efforts to bring this case to justice,” stated the San Bruno Police Department in a social media announcement.

The police have not released the names of the infant’s parents but confirmed they collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety and specialized forensic labs to achieve this identification. In the initial investigation, it was revealed that the newborn had Type O-positive blood and that reddish-brown human hair and black dog hair were found on the sock used to strangle him.

Despite an exhaustive investigation at the time, authorities were unable to determine the child’s identity or identify the person(s) responsible for his death. Now, with this new development, the police hope that the public can provide crucial information that may lead to justice for the child.
