URGENT UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has just announced it will pay off the mortgage for the family of fallen Burnsville Fire Department firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. This generous act is part of the nonprofit’s 2025 Season of Hope and aims to support the family after Finseth’s tragic death.
Finseth, 40, was fatally shot on February 18, 2024, while responding to a domestic violence call in Burnsville, Minnesota. He was ambushed alongside Burnsville police officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, who were also on the scene during the standoff. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation praised Finseth’s bravery, highlighting that he “acted without hesitation in his last moments.”
On what was supposed to be a day off, Finseth, one of the department’s two SWAT medics, responded to the incident because seven children were reportedly at risk. Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann hailed Finseth’s commitment, stating, “He showed his commitment and unwavering dedication.”
During the standoff, the suspect opened fire unexpectedly as officers attempted to negotiate. Finseth was shot while trying to provide medical aid to an injured officer. The assailant later took his own life, but fortunately, the children and the man’s girlfriend were unharmed.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established after the September 11 attacks, is dedicated to aiding families of fallen first responders. Their decision to pay off the Finseth family’s mortgage reflects a commitment to support those who sacrifice for the safety of others.
The community is expected to rally around the Finseth family in the coming days as they navigate this devastating loss. As this story develops, further details about memorial services and community support efforts are anticipated.
