UPDATE: Old Dominion University (ODU) has confirmed that the new baseball stadium, the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex at TowneBank Field, will officially open in 2026. However, due to construction delays, the Monarchs will utilize temporary seating for the season, accommodating nearly 1,000 fans during home games.
The temporary seating will be primarily located over the left-field fence, featuring food trucks, beverage stations, and a party lounge tent equipped with TVs for game broadcasts. A standing-room railing will also provide fans with elevated views of the action.
Officials report that unavoidable delays related to storm-water retention and utility relocations are responsible for the postponed timeline. Last season, ODU had to host its games at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton and Norfolk’s Harbor Park.
Fans can mark their calendars for the opening series against Quinnipiac from February 13-15, 2026.
In related news, ODU’s football star, running back J’Mari Taylor, has garnered attention after being named a first-team All-ACC selection. Taylor led the league with 997 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns this season, highlighting his significant impact on the Cavaliers. Virginia Tech had only two players recognized in this year’s All-ACC honors.
As ODU prepares for the new baseball stadium, the excitement surrounding the 2026 season is palpable. The installation of temporary seating will allow fans to engage with the team, even as construction continues.
Expect further updates as the university works towards the completion of the facility and prepares for a promising season ahead.
