Moscow’s Holiday Parade Lights Up the City Amid Wintry Weather

UPDATE: Thousands braved chilly weather to attend Moscow’s annual “Light up the Season” parade on December 7, 2023, igniting the holiday spirit in the city. The festive event, held on Main Street, culminated in the lighting of a towering 20-foot tree at Friendship Square, a moment many attendees eagerly anticipated.

Despite the wintry slush, revelers adorned in holiday lights gathered as the countdown commenced for the tree lighting, which was confirmed to be provided by Hash Tree Company in Princeton, according to Moscow City Administrator Bill Belknap. The atmosphere was electric as families and friends celebrated the kickoff of the holiday season.

The parade featured spirited participants, including Moscow High School cheerleaders sporting illuminated pom-poms. Festive floats showcased creative themes such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and the “Island of Misfit Toys.” Even the Grinch made an appearance in a cheerful Christmas sweater, delighting crowds with high-fives instead of mischief.

In a unique twist, two parade participants, Moscow Title Inc. and Wholesale Hydraulics, drove Zambonis down Main Street, entertaining the audience with their icy-themed vehicles. The grand finale featured Santa Claus himself, who paraded through the streets in a horse-drawn carriage, leaving spectators buzzing with excitement.

The weather held off just in time for the parade after a day filled with rain and snow, creating a magical atmosphere for attendees. As the evening progressed, the colorful lights illuminated the streets, evoking joy and a sense of community among the participants.

This year’s celebration not only marks the start of the holiday season but also strengthens the bond among Moscow residents, igniting a spirit of togetherness as families and friends gather to celebrate.
