URGENT UPDATE: Director Molly Ratermann has confirmed that her highly anticipated comedy-horror film, “Making a Bridesmaid,” has officially wrapped post-production and is now targeting a festival debut in 2026. This film promises to blend humor and horror, drawing comparisons to “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Bridesmaids.”
Set against the backdrop of a stylized “sleepover-from-hell,” “Making a Bridesmaid” satirizes the intense pressure women face to compete in a world filled with limited opportunities. The film was shot on location in Lake Tahoe, California, and is produced by 741 Films and Little Hand Productions.
The story centers on two outcast sisters, played by Emily Kincaid and Ratermann herself, who embark on a “basic bitch” bachelorette weekend. However, their fun takes a deadly turn as they find themselves trapped in a real-life murder game, competing for bridesmaid spots just to survive.
The ensemble cast features notable talents including Serra Naiman, Wilder Yari from “The Lincoln Lawyer,” and Alex Sgambati of “The Walking Dead.” Ratermann expressed enthusiasm about the film, stating, “
‘Making A Bridesmaid’ is a wild, fun ride that digs into fakeness, identity, and rivalry, even as women keep reaching for solidarity.”
This film is packed with vibrant aesthetics—think pastel-neon textures and a synth-pop pulse—driven by a powerhouse cast. It explores profound themes of female socialization, aiming to spark curiosity in men while allowing women to find humor in their own experiences.
The creative team includes Sabrina Plisco, President of the American Cinema Editors, marking her debut both as editor and producer. She collaborates with cinematographer David Newbert to bring Ratermann’s vision to life. Executive producers include Finn Bruce, Michael D. Whitfield, Sonny Marler, Keith Rosmarin, and Darren Cogan.
As the film enters the final stages of production, details regarding premiere plans and sales representation are forthcoming. Stay tuned for more updates as “Making a Bridesmaid” gears up to make waves in the film festival circuit in 2026.
