Missouri License Office to Close Until 2026 – Alternatives Available

URGENT UPDATE: The Missouri Department of Revenue has just announced that the license office located at 1021 West Buchanan will close its doors after business on November 25, 2023, and will remain shut until January 2026. This unexpected closure poses a significant inconvenience for residents, but several nearby alternatives are ready to assist.

Starting November 26, individuals needing motor vehicle and driver licensing services can turn to nearby offices. The Eldon License Office at 404 East 4th Street, Suite B, and the Versailles License Office at 108 North Monroe are both within easy reach. Additionally, the Jefferson City License Office, located at 2015 Schotthill Woods Drive, and the Boonville License Office at 520 Ryan Street, Unit F, will also provide necessary services during this transition.

Residents are encouraged to utilize various online services offered by the Department of Revenue to manage their needs without visiting an office in person. The Online License Plate Renewal System allows users to renew their license plates if their county shares personal property tax information. Check online to see if your county participates and what is required for registration renewal.

For additional assistance, the department’s chatbot, DORA, is available 24/7 to answer inquiries about taxes, motor vehicles, and driver licensing matters. Alternatively, renewals can be completed via phone at (573) 751-1957, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This closure is a part of a renovation process aimed at enhancing service delivery, but officials have yet to disclose the new location set to open in 2026. Residents are advised to plan ahead and take advantage of these alternative options to avoid disruptions.
