BREAKING: A 4-year-old boy missing since New Year’s Eve in Jasper, Alabama, has been found dead, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. Johnathan Everett Boley was located on January 6, 2023, just two miles from his father’s home, with his dog Buck still alive nearby.
Authorities confirmed that Johnathan was last seen around noon on December 31, when he was visiting his father, Jameson Boley. His disappearance prompted extensive search efforts by local volunteers and the FBI, which were initially hindered by concerns over possible explosives on his father’s property. Sheriff Nick Smith stated, “We have located Johnathan, and Johnathan is deceased,” during a press conference that has left the community in shock.
The circumstances surrounding Johnathan’s death remain unclear as an investigation is underway. During a search of Jameson Boley’s property, law enforcement discovered explosive materials, leading to his arrest on charges related to explosives and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child, as reported by CBS 42.
Johnathan had been living with his mother, who moved to Florida last year. He was visiting his father under a custody agreement when the tragic events unfolded. Sheriff Smith expressed the community’s grief, stating, “Like so many of you across our community, we’re aware and devastated by this news. This is going to be a very hard time for our community.”
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected as authorities continue to piece together the events leading to this heartbreaking incident. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any further information that could assist in the investigation.
