MDOT Announces Urgent Seasonal Closure of Michigan Parks Oct. 20

URGENT UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has just announced the seasonal closure of several popular roadside parks, starting Monday, October 20, 2025. This closure affects park-goers planning scenic drives this fall, as three notable parks will be shutting their gates for winter.

The closure includes the White Cloud Roadside Park on M-37 in Newaygo County, Chase Roadside Park on US-10 in Lake County, and Baldwin Roadside Park also on US-10 in Lake County. These parks are closing to facilitate necessary upgrades to restroom facilities, a critical improvement for future travelers.

Travelers should not lose hope entirely, as some parks will remain open for a little longer into the fall. Visitors to Huron County can enjoy the amenities at Brown Roadside Park on M-25 until Friday, November 28, 2025. In Newaygo County, both White River Roadside Park on M-20 and High Rollway Park Roadside Park on M-82 will remain accessible until Saturday, November 29, 2025. Additionally, Manistee River Roadside Park near Manton on US-131 in Wexford County will close for the season on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Despite this seasonal transition, MDOT assures travelers that several parks will stay open through the winter months. Drivers can find refuge at White Rock Roadside Park on M-25 in Sanilac County, Cass River Roadside Park on M-46 in Tuscola County, and Artesian Flow Roadside Park on M-140 near Watervliet in Berrien County. These parks will remain accessible year-round, providing a warm welcome to weary travelers seeking a break from the road.

As the fall season approaches, park enthusiasts are urged to plan their trips accordingly, taking note of these closures.
