URGENT UPDATE: Marjorie Sack Hobday, a beloved member of the Burnt Hills community, has passed away at the age of 95. She died peacefully at her home on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, music, and community service.
Born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise Sack. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack. Marjorie’s life was marked by a deep passion for music and art, which she shared with her husband throughout their years together.
Marjorie was well-educated, having attended St. Agnes School, Burnt Hills High School, and Skidmore College. Together with Richard, she was an active participant in numerous musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. Their love for music resonated within the community, as they lent their voices to various church choirs.
Those who knew Marjorie remember her resourcefulness and creativity, traits she honed during her childhood in the Great Depression. In addition to her love for music, she found joy in gardening and crafting, nurturing beauty both indoors and outdoors. The couple cherished summers spent at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, a place filled with cherished memories of hikes, canoeing, and community gatherings.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon (Carol) Hobday, daughters, Wendy (Charles) Haugh and JoAnn (Richard) Massad, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Katherine, Anne, Henry, and Lilliana. Her impact on her family and community will be felt for years to come.
A Mass celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, a reception will be hosted in the church hall, welcoming all who wish to pay their respects.
Marjorie will be laid to rest with her husband at Calvary Episcopal Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or Estherville Animal Shelter in Greenfield Center, NY.
