UPDATE: A Houston homeowner is urgently seeking answers after city workers removed her landscaping stones, leaving her concerned for her safety. Maria Trevino reported her distress to ABC13, revealing that she discovered the stones missing from her property on September 18, 2023.
“I came home and just couldn’t believe my eyes. Where are the rocks? Where are the stones?” Trevino exclaimed. The stones had been strategically placed on the corner of her yard to prevent vehicles from veering off the road and onto her property, a solution she implemented over a year and a half ago.
On that fateful day, Trevino’s security cameras captured footage that raises questions. At 10:03 a.m., the stones were clearly visible. By 10:06 a.m., they had vanished, replaced by a large piece of machinery dumping debris into a truck. Trevino believes the city’s heavy trash team mistakenly removed her landscaping stones during a yard waste pickup scheduled for September 16.
“The stones weren’t trash; they were there for a reason,” Trevino stated. Following their removal, she immediately contacted the city’s 3-1-1 service for clarification but has yet to receive a satisfying response despite multiple follow-ups on September 26 and October 23.
“We keep getting report numbers, but no one has followed up with me,” she lamented. Trevino is now appealing for the city to replace the stones, expressing that without them, she feels vulnerable to potential accidents. “Every weekend, I dread it because that’s when it usually happens,” she said, referring to vehicles driving onto her property.
Eyewitness News has reached out to 3-1-1 for an update on Trevino’s case. In addition, they have suggested that she file a claim with the city, though it’s important to note that only 17% of claims have been paid out from 2022 to 2024, raising concerns about her chances of receiving compensation.
This incident highlights a growing issue in Houston regarding municipal services and their accountability. Residents are encouraged to engage with city services and ensure their concerns are addressed promptly.
As the situation develops, Trevino remains hopeful for a resolution. “I just want my stones back so I can feel safe again,” she concluded.
