URGENT UPDATE: Holy Family Haven has just opened its doors, providing 72 affordable housing units in Clarkston. This milestone was celebrated with a grand opening ceremony attended by community leaders and excited students from Holy Family Catholic School, who played a key role in naming the complex.
The new housing project, located at 1411 Port Drive, is designed to offer families a safe and secure environment. Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing, confirmed that half of the units are already occupied, with more families moving in shortly. “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening,” Mallahan said during the event.
The blessing ceremony featured a priest, city leaders, and representatives from Catholic Charities and the Horizon Housing Alliance. Students contributed artwork, sang their school song, and cheered enthusiastically for the project that bears their school’s name.
Mayor Monika Lawrence highlighted the commitment to quality housing, stating, “John Pilcher promised Clarkston a top-notch housing project, and he really delivered.” Pilcher, executive director of the Horizon Housing Alliance, emphasized the initiative’s focus on creating a community rather than a shelter, stating this project will be a safe haven for families.
Currently, 30% of the units remain available for families who meet income qualifications. Mallahan encouraged interested families to reach out to Catholic Charities for application details, emphasizing that “It’s not just a place to live; it’s a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives and achieve their goals.”
The Holy Family Haven complex is set to offer comprehensive support services, including mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery support, and assistance with employment. Additionally, residents will benefit from fresh food distribution to help address vital nutritional needs.
The total investment for this project reached $31.4 million, with funding provided by KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment. Seventy units are designated for families earning between 30% to 60% of the area median income, while 35 units are allocated for individuals who have experienced homelessness.
Applications for housing can be submitted online at housing.cceasternwa.org/how-to-apply. This initiative represents a significant step toward addressing affordable housing needs in the Clarkston area, fostering community growth and individual empowerment.
