Google Announces Major Update: Users Can Change Gmail Addresses Now

URGENT UPDATE: Google is rolling out a long-awaited feature allowing users to change their @gmail.com addresses, marking a significant shift just in time for the new year. The update, confirmed via a recently modified page on Google’s help center, empowers users to transition to new email addresses while retaining their original @gmail.com domain.

The announcement, first detected by users in the Google Pixel Hub Telegram group, indicates a gradual rollout of this feature worldwide. Although the English-language version of the help page has yet to reflect this change, translations in languages such as Hindi, Spanish, French, and Japanese detail the exciting new functionality.

According to the latest guidance, “If your Google Account email address ends in @gmail.com, you may be able to change it to another address that ends in @gmail.com.” This means users who feel their current email does not represent them or have simply outgrown it can opt for a fresh start without the fear of losing vital data linked to their account.

Once users initiate the change, the original email will convert into an alternate address. Both the new and old addresses will remain active, ensuring users continue to receive emails sent to either address. Additionally, they can log in to popular Google services, including Maps, YouTube, and Drive, using either email.

However, there are some limitations to keep in mind. After changing the email address, users will be locked out from creating another new Gmail address for the same account for a period of 12 months.

For those in regions where the help page has been updated, eligibility can be checked by visiting myaccount.google.com/google-account-email. Users should click on “Personal information” and then select “Email” to see if the option to change their Google Account email address is available. If so, a button labeled “Change Google Account email” will appear, prompting them to enter their desired new username.

This development is expected to resonate deeply with users eager for a change. As more individuals anticipate this rollout, many will likely share their experiences and newfound freedom on social media, enhancing the urgency and excitement surrounding this feature.

Stay tuned for further updates as Google expands this feature globally, impacting millions of users who have long awaited this change.
