Four Grand Forks Boys Arrested for Joyriding and Theft

BREAKING NEWS: Four teenage boys from Grand Forks have been arrested for a series of car thefts, shocking the local community. The arrests occurred late Wednesday evening, November 12, 1958, as authorities continue their investigation into multiple incidents of car theft and joyriding.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, two boys, both aged 13, voluntarily turned themselves in at the Grand Forks police station. They are part of a larger investigation that has implicated 13 youths in a string of vehicle thefts. The boys reportedly confessed to stealing at least four cars since Monday night, often taking vehicles with the keys still inside.

Earlier on Wednesday, two additional suspects, one 13 and the other 14, were detained after they crashed a stolen vehicle approximately 10 miles east of East Grand Forks. These boys had been seen together around noon on the same day, leading authorities to believe they were involved in the ongoing crime spree.

Juvenile officer Duane Johnson confirmed that the boys had been joyriding for about 15 minutes before abandoning the vehicles. The alarming trend of youth car thefts has raised concerns within the community, as parents and residents seek answers about what led to these actions.

The situation escalated after a local resident, Jack St. Lawrence, reported his 1956 model car stolen from 1st St. S.E. near the Jerome Dunlevy Ready-Mix Plant. Just half an hour later, a school bus driver witnessed a vehicle veering off the road and flipping over. Two young individuals fled from the scene, prompting a search by St. Lawrence and nearby farmers, who eventually caught up with the fleeing suspects.

The boys were previously released to their parents’ custody while awaiting proceedings in Juvenile Court. As this developing story unfolds, local officials are urging parents to discuss responsible behavior with their children to prevent similar incidents in the future.

NEXT STEPS: Authorities are expected to hold a press conference to address community concerns and outline preventive measures. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing investigation as more details emerge.
