URGENT UPDATE: Fligor has declared her candidacy for Santa Clara County Assessor, aiming to ensure the office remains dedicated to serving taxpayers and residents. With the election date set for December 30, Fligor emphasizes the pressing need for experienced leadership in this crucial role.
Fligor, currently the assistant assessor, has a background that includes serving as a special assistant and attorney within the office. She asserts she is the only candidate with the required legal property tax certification and management skills necessary for effective governance. “The role of the assessor is vital for maintaining fairness in property taxation,” Fligor stated in her announcement.
The Assessor’s Office is responsible for appraising over 500,000 properties and managing a staggering $700 billion assessment roll, generating roughly $8 billion annually to fund essential public services such as health care, public safety, and education. With over 11,000 active appeals currently in progress, leadership stability is more critical than ever.
Fligor outlined her vision for the office, emphasizing the need to modernize processes and improve customer engagement. She pledged to ensure assessments are conducted legally, fairly, and accurately, and to educate property owners about their tax exemptions. “Customer service and community engagement will remain my top priorities,” she affirmed.
Fligor also highlighted her plans for technological upgrades, noting that a new system will go live in two years, replacing outdated technology and enhancing operational efficiency. Furthermore, she is actively working on expediting the appeals process, utilizing her legal expertise to improve outcomes for residents.
As a member of the Los Altos City Council, Fligor has demonstrated her commitment to community service, having been unanimously selected as both mayor and vice mayor during her tenure. Her extensive experience working with regional and statewide leaders positions her as a strong advocate for Santa Clara County.
Endorsements from influential figures further bolster her campaign, including support from the Mercury News, the Santa Clara County Democratic Party, and local representatives like Rep. Sam Liccardo and retired Assessor Larry Stone.
As the election approaches, Fligor urges residents to make their voices heard. “Voting has already started, and I respectfully ask for your support,” she concluded, reminding voters of the importance of participating in this pivotal election.
With the deadline fast approaching, residents are encouraged to engage with the electoral process and consider the implications of this essential role in local governance.
