Dr. Peter Sheckman Named Chair of Bridgewell Board, Urgent Leadership Shift

UPDATE: In a significant leadership transition, Dr. Peter Sheckman, a resident of Swampscott, Massachusetts, has been appointed chair of the Board of Directors for Bridgewell. This urgent update comes as the nonprofit organization, dedicated to serving communities in northeastern Massachusetts, prepares for new initiatives under Sheckman’s guidance.

Alongside Sheckman, Jane Puffer from Acton has been named vice chair, signaling a strategic shift in Bridgewell’s leadership. Sheckman, who retired after practicing internal medicine and infectious diseases for over 40 years, previously held key positions at North Shore Physicians Group and served as hospital epidemiologist at both Lynn and Union Hospitals. His wealth of experience will be pivotal as Bridgewell continues its mission to empower individuals facing disabilities and life challenges.

In a statement, Sheckman expressed deep respect for Bridgewell’s leadership team, stating, “What a revelation it has been for me to watch the growth and development of the organization through incredible leadership and mission-driven work.” His prior role as chair of Project Cope and his involvement in the merger with Bridgewell over a decade ago showcase his commitment to the organization’s mission.

Puffer, who has spent over 14 years on Bridgewell’s board, brings extensive marketing expertise from her role as president of Dreamaker Consulting Group. She emphasized the honor of her vice chair election, highlighting Bridgewell’s dedication to serving the community. “I have been involved with the organization because of its mission to serve the community through empowering people with disabilities and other life challenges to live their best lives,” Puffer stated.

Chris Tuttle, President and CEO of Bridgewell, praised the contributions of both Sheckman and Puffer, stating, “Their combined oversight and deep understanding of our organization and the needs of the individuals we serve will be invaluable as chair and vice chair.” This leadership change comes as Bridgewell prepares to enhance its reach and effectiveness in supporting approximately 7,200 people and their families through various services, including community housing, outpatient treatment, and employment training.

Bridgewell is not just a service provider; it’s a lifeline for many, employing over 1,200 professionals who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. As the organization heads into a new chapter under Sheckman and Puffer, the community watches closely, anticipating impactful developments.

This leadership transition is a critical moment for Bridgewell, marking a renewed commitment to its mission as a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities. With the board now led by experienced professionals, the future looks promising for those relying on Bridgewell’s services.
