URGENT UPDATE: David “Dave” Platt, a respected Certified Safety Professional and beloved community figure, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 70 years old and leaves behind a legacy of dedication to workplace safety and community service.
Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, CA, Dave’s life was marked by a commitment to helping others. He grew up participating in Scouting and Little League Baseball, setting the foundation for a life devoted to mentorship and safety. Graduating from Calhi School in 1973, he later earned his degree in Anthropology from Sonoma State University in 1978.
Throughout his career, Dave was known as “The Safety Guy,” educating employers in California on preventing workplace injuries and fostering safe environments. His impact on workplace safety regulations and practices was profound, earning him respect across the state.
In 2019, Dave relocated to Sequim, WA, where he spent his final years enjoying hobbies like photography, cooking, and fishing. He was also a passionate music lover and frequently attended concerts, enriching his life with artistic experiences.
Dave is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt, daughter Carolanne Baker, and a wide circle of family and friends, including siblings and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt.
As a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club, Dave’s commitment to youth and community development was evident throughout his life. His devotion extended beyond family and friends, as he made significant contributions to community safety initiatives.
In honor of his memory, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, reflecting his wish to help others in their battles against illness.
