Colorado Volleyball Stars Lauer and Smith Earn Player Honors

UPDATE: The Colorado High School Activities Association has just announced its all-state girls volleyball teams, spotlighting standout performances that have captivated fans across the state. University sophomore outside hitter Delaney Lauer has been honored as the Class 4A Player of the Year, while Eaton’s Madi Smith takes the title in Class 3A.

In a remarkable season, the University Bulldogs finished with a stellar 24-5 record, culminating in a state championship title on November 15, 2023, at the Denver Coliseum. Lauer played a pivotal role in the victory, leading her team with an impressive 402 kills, while also contributing 272 digs and 34 aces. Her exceptional performance not only earned her the top individual honor but also solidified the Bulldogs’ position as a powerhouse in Colorado volleyball.

Eaton’s Smith, meanwhile, has led her team to a fantastic 25-4 season, marking their 11th state title in history. Smith’s contributions were equally impressive, with 399 kills, 200 digs, and 24 blocks. Her standout skills on the court have made her a key player for the Reds, and she continues to inspire her teammates and the community.

The all-state teams are finalized through a collaborative effort between CHSAANow.com and MaxPreps, where coaches from across the state vote on players who have received first-team all-conference honors. This process highlights the exceptional talent present in Colorado’s high school volleyball scene.

In addition to Lauer and Smith, University head coach Jared Rudiger was named 4A Coach of the Year, a testament to his leadership and the team’s cohesive performance. Teammate Jordan Halley also joined Lauer on the 4A first team, showcasing the Bulldogs’ depth of talent.
