UPDATE: Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) has just honored local heroes during the annual 2025 Healthy Community Awards, celebrating transformative efforts in health and equity. The ceremony, held on October 17 at the BCPH Southeast Hub in Lafayette, recognized significant contributions from individuals and organizations dedicated to building a healthier Boulder County.
URGENT NEWS: This year’s awards spotlighted remarkable achievements aimed at enhancing community well-being. BCPH Executive Director Lexi Nolen and Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin were among the key figures celebrating those who have gone above and beyond for public health.
The event highlighted Lisa Allen from Boulder Community Health, whose innovative Family Connects program has already supported nearly 900 families by reducing maternal anxiety and depression, while also advancing racial equity in healthcare.
Another standout, Melissa Bonomo, pharmacy manager at Albertsons, emerged as a vaccine champion, training 10 pharmacy technicians and organizing mobile clinics that successfully administered over 10,000 vaccines within a year. Her efforts particularly focused on vulnerable populations, including delivering 46 vaccines at the Boulder Homeless Shelter.
Additionally, Gapter Septic Systems & Excavation, a local fixture since the disco era, showcased their commitment to community health by providing free septic lid replacements post-Marshall Fire, ensuring Boulder County’s water remains pristine.
The ceremony also recognized UpRoot Colorado, a vital player in nutrition and climate action, which has salvaged and distributed over 520 pounds of local farm produce to families, reinforcing child nutrition and community partnerships.
