Boston Firefighters Battle Blaze on Christmas Morning, 3 Displaced

UPDATE: Boston firefighters swiftly extinguished a significant fire at 699 Washington St. in Dorchester early on Christmas morning. The blaze broke out at a 2.5-story wood frame home, prompting a rapid response that included a second alarm being struck.

Firefighters arrived shortly after the alarm sounded and found fire visible from the structure. “Fire companies have knocked down the heavy fire and are checking for hotspots and extension,” the Boston Fire Department confirmed via social media. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident, which left three residents displaced.

Emergency services, including the Red Cross and the Boston Fire Department’s Victim Assistance Unit, are currently on the scene offering support to those affected. The fire caused an estimated $950,000 in damages, raising concerns over safety during the winter season.

In a related and tragic incident, a 21-year-old woman lost her life in a massive fire in Needham on December 24. Firefighters responded to 28 Woodworth Road shortly before 5 a.m., encountering heavy smoke and flames from the three-story home. Despite efforts to enter the building, the fire spread rapidly, preventing immediate rescue efforts. Two adults managed to escape, but the young woman was tragically found deceased inside.

The fire in Needham prompted a four-alarm response with approximately 75 firefighters battling the inferno for over seven hours before it was finally brought under control. Investigators, including officials from the Needham Fire Department and the State Police, are currently working to determine the cause of this devastating incident.

State Fire Marshal Jon Davine emphasized the importance of fire safety, stating, “Tragedies like this one are most common in the winter months. Please ensure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home and a practiced escape plan in the event of an emergency.”
