Beloved Jean Sumner Passes Away After Long Battle with Cancer

BREAKING: Jean Marie (Bee) Sumner, a cherished member of the community, has passed away at her home in Rockport, Texas, on October 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She was 72 years old and is now at peace.

Born on December 21, 1952, in Plum City, Wisconsin, Jean was known for her warm spirit and love for adventure. After growing up in Embarrass, Minnesota, she graduated from Virginia High School in 1971 and went on to earn her degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1981. Her professional journey included a notable career at Wells Fargo until her retirement in 2006.

Jean’s life was marked by her love for travel, particularly with her husband, Steve Sumner, whom she married on February 14, 1987. The couple enjoyed exploring various destinations, including Mexico and the Caribbean. Most recently, Jean had settled in Rockport, Texas, while spending winters in Yuma, Arizona, and summers back in Embarrass.

She is survived by her three daughters: Leslie (Brad) Brunfelt, Kristen (John) Peek, and Amy (Dennis) Christopherson, alongside her stepson, Jason Sumner, and bonus daughter, Julie Sumner. Jean leaves behind a loving legacy, including grandchildren Emily, Sydney, Ben, Aaron, Tabitha, Matthew, Miranda, Robert, and Alice Christopherson, as well as great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Mackenzie Strzyzykowski.
