Beloved Ballston Spa Mayor Christine Fitzpatrick Passes Away

UPDATE: The community of Ballston Spa is mourning the loss of Christine M. Fitzpatrick, the town’s first female mayor, who passed away on November 24, 2025. Her family and friends are heartbroken as they announce her departure, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, leadership, and community spirit.

Christine, born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, grew up in Queens among her five siblings and numerous cousins, fostering a deep sense of family. She graduated from Saint Helena High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from St. John’s University, later pursuing a master’s degree in public service.

Her extensive career encompassed roles as an elementary school teacher, public servant at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, and vice president at Macy’s, Inc. However, her most impactful role came as the executive director of the New York State Adult Day Health Care Council, where she tirelessly advocated for community health services.

Christine’s tenure as mayor from 1981 was marked by significant achievements. She transformed the village’s finances from a $300,000 deficit to a remarkable $4.8 million fund balance, enhancing essential services for all residents. Her commitment to accessibility and citizen engagement led to the successful implementation of master plans that promised a vibrant future for Ballston Spa.

Christine was not just a leader but a beacon of light for those who knew her. She was known for her adventurous spirit, love for reading, and strong community ties. Her warmth and resilience touched countless lives, and her legacy will endure through the many friendships and connections she nurtured.

“Christine was a true champion for our community, and her dedication will be felt for generations,” said a close friend.

Her family invites the community to honor her memory with calling hours on Wednesday, December 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Christine’s name to the Friends of the Ballston Spa Public Library or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
