UPDATE: Alejandra’s Mexican restaurant in Downtown Visalia is officially back in business after a devastating fire in 2022 forced its closure. The beloved local establishment, which was destroyed by flames that spread from a nearby dumpster, has successfully rebuilt and is now welcoming customers once again.
The fire, ignited by an individual who later admitted to starting it, caused substantial damage to Alejandra’s as well as neighboring businesses including Décor to Adore and Jimmy John’s. Now, just over three years later, the restaurant has risen from the ashes and is ready to serve the community.
General Manager Saul Altamirano expressed his excitement, stating, “It feels great. The staff and I have all been anxious to return to our community.” Since reopening, hundreds of patrons have already flocked to Alejandra’s, eager to enjoy their favorite dishes.
Returning customer Geraldine Cole, who has been dining at Alejandra’s since 2008, shared her joy: “It’s exactly what we expected, just coming in getting our chips and salsa.” She and her colleagues, who work across the street, had been watching and waiting for the restaurant’s return.
With a refreshed look but the same familiar atmosphere, Alejandra’s now accommodates around 200 people. The bar space has tripled, seating 24 guests, while the patio features five new tables. Booths have also been expanded to fit six instead of four, allowing for a more comfortable dining experience.
Despite the fire’s destruction, Alejandra’s has managed to retain its dedicated staff, including the entire kitchen crew. “Once you think about it and reflect on it, you realize maybe things happen for the better,” Saul added. “Now we have more space to feed the community.”
The grand reopening celebration is set for this upcoming Saturday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. The community is invited to join in the festivities and reconnect with this cherished local spot.
