Ryan Colby Launches Innovative AI-Themed Hackathon in San Francisco

The domain industry is set for an exciting transformation with the launch of the Domain2Demo hackathon, scheduled for April 25-26, 2026, at Dogpatch Studios in San Francisco. Organized by industry veteran Ryan Colby, this event aims to merge the world of domain names with the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence (AI). Participants will draft premium domains, create AI-powered products, and present their work in a fast-paced 36-hour format.

Unlike traditional conferences or hackathons, Domain2Demo focuses on starting with a domain name. Teams will have the opportunity to draft a domain, develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), and pitch their creations to a panel for cash prizes. The stakes are high, with $10,000 awarded to the winner, $5,000 for second place, and $2,000 for third place. Colby believes this format will capture significant media attention, particularly as the event takes place in Silicon Valley, a hub for tech innovation.

Unique Features and Networking Opportunities

The hackathon will feature a Builder’s Summit alongside the competitions. This summit will offer rotating tech talks and curated networking opportunities for founders, domain owners, and investors. Colby has already secured notable speakers, including super broker Larry Fischer, who recently facilitated the record-breaking sale of the domain AI.com for $70 million. Additionally, Monte Cahn, founder of RightOfTheDot.com, is expected to conduct an AI-themed live domain auction during the event.

Colby’s previous experience in organizing tech events has equipped him with the skills to deliver a successful hackathon. Since entering the domain industry in 2010 as a Senior Sales Consultant at Sedo, he has organized events attracting as many as 4,000 attendees and 200 exhibitors. His vision for Domain2Demo is to create a vibrant social experience, complete with off-site VIP networking and private dinners.

According to Colby, over 250 domain names have already been submitted for the competition, and he anticipates more than 500 attendees. The event promises to be a unique blend of competition and collaboration, emphasizing both innovation and community in the domain industry.

Registration for the Domain2Demo hackathon is currently open, and interested participants can find more details on the official Domain2Demo website. This event aims not only to foster innovation but also to strengthen relationships within the domain community, making it a significant milestone for industry professionals.

As the date approaches, anticipation builds for what Colby describes as a “curated social experience” that will redefine traditional domain industry events.
