EcoFlow and LG Homey Unite for Seamless Home Energy Management

At CES 2026, a significant advancement in home energy management was unveiled as EcoFlow and Homey, a brand owned by LG, announced a partnership that aims to simplify the integration of smart appliances and energy systems. This collaboration addresses the longstanding issue of fragmentation within the smart home sector, allowing users to manage their energy use and smart devices from a single interface.

Integration of Smart Energy Solutions

Traditionally, homeowners have faced the challenge of controlling energy sources and smart devices through separate applications. For instance, monitoring solar panel output often required one app, while managing the thermostat necessitated another. The new integration between EcoFlow’s Smart Home Energy Management System and the Homey Energy Dongle eliminates this barrier. Users can now monitor solar generation, battery storage, and individual household circuits directly within the Homey app, enhancing convenience without the need for additional hardware or services.

This streamlined approach not only simplifies management but also enhances automation capabilities. For example, homeowners can program high-energy appliances, such as dishwashers and dryers, to operate only when solar energy production is at its peak. This capability allows for greater efficiency and potential cost savings.

Enhancing Resilience and Cost-Effectiveness

The partnership brings added benefits, particularly during power outages. The system can automatically deactivate non-essential devices to conserve battery life, prioritizing critical appliances like refrigerators and security systems. Moreover, it can adjust energy consumption based on fluctuations in electricity prices, providing a practical solution for reducing utility bills.

Beyond this collaboration with Homey, EcoFlow is advocating for a broader shift within the industry through the introduction of the Ecosystem Alliance. This initiative comprises over 15 smart home and appliance brands committed to developing interoperable products. By sharing APIs and employing standardized interfaces, the Ecosystem Alliance aims to tackle the “walled garden” problem, where devices from different manufacturers often fail to communicate effectively. In doing so, they envision a future where energy hardware and smart devices work together seamlessly.

The global rollout of these integrations is set to begin in early 2026, with the technical details showcased at CES 2026. The real impact, however, will be felt in households as the concept of “smart” evolves to mean “simple,” allowing users to navigate their home energy systems with ease.

As the smart home landscape continues to evolve, the partnership between EcoFlow and Homey represents a significant step toward a more integrated and user-friendly approach to home energy management.
