Darktrace has officially announced the appointment of Ed Jennings as its new president and chief executive officer, effective March 23, 2024. Jennings brings over 25 years of experience in the technology sector, having most recently served as CEO of Quickbase, a cloud-based work management platform. During his tenure at Quickbase, Jennings successfully doubled the company’s annual revenue, showcasing his capability to drive financial success.
Before his role at Quickbase, Jennings was the chief operating officer at Mimecast, a London-based cybersecurity firm. He played a crucial part in the company’s initial public offering (IPO) and its substantial international growth. Jennings has also held leadership positions in go-to-market strategies at notable firms such as Veracode, ADP, Copanion, and PTC.
Strategic Vision for Darktrace
In a statement regarding Jennings’ appointment, Charles Goodman, chairman and interim CEO of Darktrace, expressed confidence in Jennings’ ability to enhance the company’s strategic focus. “Ed is a veteran technology leader who has successfully scaled other cybersecurity and software category leaders,” Goodman stated. “He will bring a strong strategic focus to Darktrace as it enhances its AI-native cybersecurity capabilities for organizations worldwide. Ed is a people-focused leader with a skill for building high-trust, high-performance teams. I am delighted that he has chosen to join Darktrace.”
Jennings takes over from former CEO Jill Popelka, who stepped down from her role at the end of January 2024, having only joined Darktrace earlier that month. His immediate focus will be on expanding the growth of Darktrace’s ActiveAI Security Platform and increasing its customer base, which currently stands at over 10,000 clients.
Capitalizing on AI Opportunities
Reflecting on his new position, Jennings highlighted Darktrace’s “incredible first-mover advantage” in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. He emphasized that the company’s behavioral AI platform is uniquely equipped to detect and respond to attacks, even those that have not been encountered before. “As society grapples with a fast-moving geopolitical landscape and unprecedented technology adoption, the market for Darktrace’s products and services is immense,” Jennings noted.
In a LinkedIn post, Jennings expressed his enthusiasm for refining the company’s messaging in a competitive market and driving growth. “We have the technology, the talent, and the market opportunity to be the defining cybersecurity company of the Agentic AI era,” he stated.
Darktrace aims to leverage Jennings’ leadership to further solidify its position within the cybersecurity industry, capitalizing on emerging opportunities as AI technology continues to gain traction globally.
