Marmaton Valley High School senior Todd Stevenson has been named the Allen County Area Male Athlete of the Month, a recognition attributed to the support of the local community, known as “Wildcat Nation.” The announcement follows a stellar season on the football field, where Stevenson excelled as both a receiver and defensive back.
Celebrating Community Support
The honor was determined through a vote by readers of the Iola Register. After a basketball season opener on October 27, 2023, Stevenson expressed gratitude to the community for their votes. “I love our community. We’re all together,” he stated. “Whether it’s sports or academics, we show up.”
Stevenson’s performance during the football season played a significant role in the Wildcats securing the Three Rivers League title, culminating in an 8-2 overall record. He formed a formidable partnership with senior quarterback Tyler Lord, who had previously been recognized as the athlete of the month in October.
Impressive Stats and Future Aspirations
This season, Stevenson recorded impressive statistics, including 45 receptions for 752 yards and 14 touchdowns. Additionally, he showcased his versatility by rushing for 276 yards on 21 carries, averaging 13 yards per carry, and scoring three rushing touchdowns.
“We’ve been together since kindergarten,” said Stevenson about his relationship with Lord. “We have an automatic bond. Tyler has an arm and I have the hands to catch it.”
On defense, Stevenson made significant contributions, achieving 28 tackles and ranking third in solo tackles with 19. His outstanding performance earned him first-team All-TRL honors on both offense and defense, in addition to receiving an honorable mention for his special teams play, which included 163 yards on 13 returns with a long of 64 yards.
Reflecting on his achievements, Stevenson shared, “My goal at the beginning of the year was to get 1,000 yards. That’s what I’m happy with.” Looking ahead, he expressed hope that the momentum from football will carry over into basketball, baseball, and track, emphasizing the importance of teamwork across all sports.
As Todd Stevenson continues to shine in his athletic endeavors, his commitment to both his community and his teams remains evident. The support from “Wildcat Nation” not only fuels his individual achievements but also reinforces the spirit of camaraderie that defines Marmaton Valley High School.
