The Texas A&M Aggies are set to revamp their offensive line for the 2026 season, welcoming Coen Echols, a transfer from LSU, following the announcement that four key offensive linemen have declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. Head coach Mike Elko is actively addressing the gap left by the departures of left tackle Trey Zuhn, left guard Chase Bisontis, right guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams, and right tackles Dametrious Crownover and Reuben Fatheree.
Echols, who previously committed to Texas A&M in the 2023 recruiting class under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, reopened his recruitment after Fisher’s dismissal. Shortly after Mike Elko took the helm, the Katy, Texas native committed to LSU, where he made significant strides as a player. During his sophomore season in 2025, Echols earned the starting position at left guard, participating in 637 offensive snaps.
While Echols garnered a commendable Pro Football Focus Pass Protection grade of 68.3, his run-blocking performance was less impressive, scoring 49.7. This discrepancy highlights his effectiveness in pass protection, crucial in LSU’s challenging run game last season. Heading into the upcoming season, Echols is poised to fill the void left by Bisontis at left guard.
In a recent interview with former Ole Miss defensive tackle Jon Seaton, Echols showcased his versatility, stating he is comfortable playing both offensive guard and center. This adaptability could enhance Texas A&M’s depth at critical positions along the offensive line.
As the team prepares for the 2026 season, senior Mark Nabou is expected to retain his role as the starting center. Sophomore Ashton Funk stands out as a potential backup option, while redshirt sophomore Blake Ivy is also considered a strong candidate for either guard position.
With these strategic transfers, Texas A&M aims to fortify its offensive line and maintain competitiveness in the Southeastern Conference.
