Eric Kjar, a distinguished figure in Utah high school football, has been appointed as the new head football coach for Weber State. This announcement was made on November 14, 2023, marking a significant shift for both Kjar and the Wildcats as they seek to enhance their football program.
Kjar, who previously led Corner Canyon High School to remarkable success, brings an impressive track record to Weber State. Over his 14 years with Corner Canyon, he secured seven 6A state titles, just one short of the state record. Notably, six of these championships were achieved within the last eight seasons, including two consecutive three-peats. His tenure concluded with a stellar record of 112 wins and 10 losses.
In a statement regarding his new role, Kjar expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity. “I’m very excited to be leading the Weber State football program,” he said. He highlighted his belief in the university’s administration and the talent available within Utah, stating, “I know we can build a championship-caliber program at Weber State, and I look forward to the challenge and getting started. Go Wildcats!”
The appointment of Kjar has been met with optimism by the university’s athletic leadership. Tim Crompton, Weber State’s athletic director, emphasized Kjar’s leadership qualities and deep connections to Utah. Crompton remarked, “Coach Kjar is absolutely the right leader at the right time. His deep Utah roots, proven leadership, and unwavering ability to build a program on a foundation of talent and character are the precise qualities that Weber State is looking for.”
Kjar’s experience extends beyond high school football. He has developed numerous players who have transitioned to successful careers at the Division I level, including prominent quarterbacks drafted into the NFL. Among these is Zach Wilson, selected second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Jaxson Dart, who was picked 25th by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Crompton further stated, “This is an exciting day not just for Weber State athletics, but for the entire institution and community.” He emphasized the shared values between Kjar and the university, expressing confidence that Kjar’s leadership will invigorate the football program and the wider community.
As Kjar transitions into this new role, he brings with him a commitment to fostering talent not only for athletic success but also for embodying the core values of Weber State. The Wildcats will look to Kjar’s experience as they aim to enhance their competitive standing in collegiate football.
