The Tampa Bay Buccaneers face a significant setback as they head into the final stretch of the NFL season. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been added to the team’s injury report, raising concerns among fans. Alongside Mayfield, seven other players are currently dealing with injuries, casting a shadow over the team’s playoff aspirations.
Mayfield is contending with both a knee injury and an unspecified issue with his right shoulder, the severity of which is still unclear. Previously, he exited a game against the Rams on November 11, 2025, due to a left shoulder injury. His absence could be critical as the Buccaneers aim to improve their performance in the final games of the season.
The Buccaneers’ injury woes extend beyond their star quarterback. Tight end Devin Culp and outside linebacker Anthony Nelson are both recovering from knee injuries, with no timeline for their return. Cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Benjamin Morrison are also sidelined, dealing with shoulder and hamstring issues, respectively. Additionally, offensive tackles Luke Goedeke and Tristan Wirfs are out due to ankle and toe injuries.
The team’s defensive line is not spared, as Calijah Kancey is nursing a pectoral injury, adding to the growing list of concerns for Head Coach Todd Bowles and his staff. The Buccaneers started the 2025 season strong, achieving a 5-1 record in their first six games. However, they have struggled recently, winning only two of their last ten games and now find themselves in a precarious position regarding playoff qualification.
In a post-game interview following a defeat to the Miami Dolphins, Bowles expressed frustration with the team’s recent performances, particularly at the quarterback position. He stated, “We’ve got to be better at the quarterback position. And we’ve got to be better at the signal-calling position and we’ve got to be better blocking it.”
As the Buccaneers prepare for their upcoming matches, the health of their key players, particularly Mayfield, will be pivotal in determining their ability to compete for a playoff spot. The team’s ability to overcome these injuries will be tested in the coming weeks as they aim to turn their season around.
