Community Remembers Augustino Sorrentino: A Life Celebrated

Augustino “Augie” Sorrentino, a cherished member of the San Pedro community, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026, at the age of 72. Surrounded by his family, Augie’s passing marks the end of a vibrant life filled with love and connection. Born on March 20, 1953, he was known for his charismatic personality and ability to engage those around him with his storytelling.

Augie is survived by his devoted wife, Mieke Sorrentino, and their four children: Lisa (Chas Poteat), Joe (Jessica), Liz (Amanda), and Vincent. His grandchildren, including Joseph Parsons (Ricarda), Ava, Augie, Gray, Sam, and Pearl Sorrentino, were his greatest source of joy, embodying the deep love he held for his family.

A Legacy of Connection and Joy

Augie’s ability to connect with people was unparalleled. His stories, humor, and infectious energy created a sense of belonging for everyone he encountered. Friends and family alike describe him as a natural storyteller, whose presence could light up any room. His legacy is characterized by devotion, strength, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

The community is invited to honor Augie’s life during a visitation on Wednesday, March 4, at McNerney’s Mortuary in San Pedro. The event will take place from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with the first hour reserved for immediate family. Friends are welcome from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, culminating in a Rosary prayer at 6:30 PM.

A Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, March 5, at 10:30 AM at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro. His interment will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, with a reception afterward at the home of Sal and Louise Sorrentino.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boys & Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor, Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, or the Toberman Neighborhood Center. This reflects Augie’s spirit of generosity and commitment to community service.
