Beloved South Bay Resident Dan Ericson Passes Away at 77

Dan Ericson, a cherished member of the South Bay community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by his loved ones, he left behind a legacy of kindness, mentorship, and deep familial ties.

Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Dan was raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where he excelled in athletics, notably in baseball and basketball, and was named Homecoming King. After completing his studies at El Camino College, Dan was “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University.

A Life of Service and Success

Dan proudly served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, embodying dedication and service to his country. Following his military career, he transitioned into the aerospace industry before discovering his passion for real estate. Over the decades, he developed a successful real estate business in the South Bay, earning respect for his integrity and commitment to mentoring young realtors.

In 1980, Dan married his soulmate, Cetha Walkington, at Neighborhood Church. Together, they created a life filled with love, family, and community engagement. Dan is remembered as a devoted father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and a proud grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Community Impact and Legacy

Dan’s playful spirit and kindness made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a knack for wordplay and humor, often catching people off guard with a well-timed joke, always shared with warmth and a smile. In his youth, he enjoyed surfing, fishing, and sailing, activities that reflected his love for the ocean and the easygoing lifestyle of Southern California.

A long-time parishioner of American Martyrs Church, Dan maintained a strong connection to his community for over 40 years. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who passed away previously.

A funeral Mass and celebration of life are scheduled for January 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach. In addition, a paddle out will take place at 10:00 a.m. on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, welcoming all who wish to pay their respects.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, a charity that supports mental health and wellness through surfing and ocean therapy.

Dan Ericson leaves behind a profound legacy, remembered not only for his business acumen but also for his unwavering support and compassion for others.
