Trinity College Dublin Celebrates 602 Students with Exhibition Awards

From January 20 to 22, 2026, Trinity College Dublin recognized the academic achievements of 602 students with the prestigious Exhibition Award. This accolade, which has roots dating back to 1867, is now awarded to all Junior Freshman students admitted for undergraduate degrees across various disciplines. The recipients achieved the highest scores in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent exams among entrants from their respective secondary schools.

The award ceremony took place at the Atrium, located on Front Square of the campus. Among the honorees, there were students from all 32 counties in Ireland: 393 hailed from Leinster, 67 from Munster, 42 from Connacht, and 41 from Ulster. Additionally, 59 international students were also honored, reflecting the diverse student body at Trinity College. Each award recipient received a certificate and a €150 book voucher, valid at Hodges Figgis, a bookstore near the College, emphasizing Trinity’s commitment to promoting education and culture.

Following the formal ceremony, students and their guests gathered in the Dining Hall for refreshments. The event also saw attendance from principals of the students’ former schools, celebrating their significant achievements.

Dr. Linda Doyle, the Provost of Trinity College Dublin, addressed the audience alongside Professor Vincent Wade, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. “It is our great privilege to welcome these wonderful students to Trinity College Dublin,” she remarked. “They deserve enormous credit for the hard work and commitment that have brought them to this point. I have every confidence that they will thrive in Trinity’s incredible academic environment and enjoy the creativity and fun of our 150 sports clubs and societies.”

Dr. Doyle also acknowledged the vital support provided by parents, guardians, and educators. She highlighted the importance of the roles played by school principals and teachers in guiding students during their formative years.

As names were called one by one, applause filled the Atrium. Recipients shared their thoughts on this significant milestone. Brianna Bergin, from County Laois and currently studying Single Honours English, expressed her feelings: “It felt nice getting some recognition by receiving the award for all the hard work I put into my Leaving Cert. It is a lovely way to appreciate the hard work that students undertake to get to Trinity.”

Similarly, Emily Keane, a student from Galway studying Film and English, reflected on the honor: “I felt quite proud of myself receiving the award. To be honest, it felt fair to be getting some recognition for all the work that I put into the Leaving Cert! It’s a reflection of our hard work and it’s a good way to celebrate it.”

The 2026 Exhibition Awards not only celebrate academic excellence but also reinforce Trinity College Dublin’s dedication to fostering a thriving educational environment for its students. The recognition of these outstanding individuals highlights the importance of perseverance and achievement in the academic landscape.
