Remembering Lloyd Goerke: A Life of Service and Achievement

Lloyd Goerke, a respected member of the Woodbury community, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 94. He is remembered for his dedication to his family, his impressive career, and his numerous contributions to society. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora Goerke, and his sister, Fern Imus. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann, along with an adopted son, Charles Anderson (Lesa); a stepson, Robbin Anderson (Valerie); two granddaughters; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; two nieces; and one nephew.

Born on January 5, 1931, in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, Lloyd grew up on the family farm. He attended a one-room country school for his early education before graduating as valedictorian from his high school in 1949. He pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in Chemistry in 1953.

Lloyd’s professional journey began at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works in St. Louis, Missouri. In early 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Officer Candidate. After commissioning later that same year, he completed basic flight training in Pensacola, Florida, followed by advanced flight training in Hutchinson, Kansas. Lloyd earned his Navy Wings of Gold in 1957 and served a two-year overseas tour in the Western Pacific region. He continued his service with the Naval Reserve out of Minneapolis for three additional years.

In 1960, Lloyd began a distinguished 32-year career at 3M, where he held various technical and supervisory roles across four plants. He served as production superintendent in two facilities and as plant manager in another two, ultimately retiring as Division Manufacturing Director in 1991.

During his retirement, Lloyd embraced a variety of hobbies, including golfing, bowling, fishing, and reading. He also dedicated his time to volunteer work, supporting initiatives such as meals-on-wheels, food shelves, and tax assistance for the elderly. His commitment to the community extended to serving meals for those in need in downtown Minneapolis. As an avid supporter of the Golden Gopher football and basketball teams, Lloyd’s enthusiasm for sports was well-known among his peers.

One of Lloyd’s lasting legacies is the establishment of scholarship endowments in his name at both the University of Minnesota and Carleton College, reflecting his belief in the importance of education. He was a long-standing member of the Grove United Methodist Church since 1991, where he served on its Board of Trustees, including a term as chairman.

A visitation will take place on December 19 from 17:00 to 19:00 at O’Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home in Woodbury. A funeral service will follow the next day at The Grove United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00, the memorial service at 11:00, and lunch at noon. Inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will occur at a later date.

Lloyd Goerke’s life was marked by service, dedication, and a passion for community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
